Daily And Long-Distance Hiking Routes

1. Gürcüdüzü-Çatak Plateau (10 km)

Suitable for everyone. The route comprises both old paths and newly opened dirt roads. The walk, accompanied by the Çağlayan Stream on your right side, passes through landmarks such as Taşlı Cave, Açhozli Cave, and the Paşa and Meşe plateaus before reaching Çatak Plateau.

2. Çatak Plateau-Çor Plateau-Çor Lake-Şorak Plateau (12 km)
(Fındıklı / Difficulty Level: 4)

Suitable for experienced nature enthusiasts. Starting from Şorak Plateau, the relatively easier trail involves a 3000-meter pass. Most of the path is well-defined. Following the left side of the stream between Çatak and Çor plateaus, after the plateau, the path ascends southward through a narrowing valley, reaching Çor Lake by heading east. In this route, you’ll encounter two lakes, and if the season permits, you can take a swimming break at Çor Lake.

3. Sorak Plateau-Üçgöller-Balıklı Plateau (6.5 km)

Recommended for experienced nature enthusiasts. This route, which necessitates crossing a 2950-meter pass, has paths marked with stone cairns. Initially following the northern side of Şorak Plateau’s stream bed towards the pass, it then ascends sharply with small bends before descending towards the lakes. Those who wish to explore around Üçgöller will need to walk an additional 1 kilometer.

4. Kayadibi Plateau-Şorak Plateau (6 km)

Suitable for experienced nature enthusiasts. Following the historical stone-paved migration route along the stream, you can reach Şorak Plateau. While on the path, Şorak Stream remains on your right side.

5. İntor Plateau-Şorak Plateau (7 km)

A walk suitable for everyone. Part of the route is a well-defined, stone-paved old path. Ascending north of İntor Plateau, the route offers a magnificent Tunca Valley view before descending into Şorak Valley. Depending on weather conditions, you can detour to photograph Gürcü Lake and return to your route.

6. İntor Plateau-Dereyayla (7 km)

A walk suitable for everyone. The route between İntor-Nolaşkar-Kayadibi-Dereyayla includes dirt roads. Those opting for the alternative route using the old migration path will have to cross a 2900-meter pass over İntor Lake (difficulty level for this section is 4).

7. Dereyayla-Ortasırtsol Lake-Dereyayla (round trip 5 km)

A day hike suitable for everyone; however, weather conditions need to be checked. For this route, follow the small stream coming from the north of Dereyayla. The trail is well-used and clear. Swimming is possible in the lake.

8. Dereyayla-Göleteği Lake (round trip 6 km)

An easy route suitable for everyone. The path to the waterfall lake from the south of Dereyayla is well-used and clear. The view of the lake from the plateau will guide you to its location. Swimming is possible in the lake.

9. Dereyayla-Golezana Plateau (8 km)

Recommended for experienced hikers. It’s important to note that this route becomes quite risky in foggy weather conditions. The path is not very distinct and is sometimes lost. The route, heading southwest of Dereyayla settlement, ascends along the slope to a 3000-meter pass. Before reaching the pass, you’ll traverse a rocky area where a small lake is located. Once at the pass, Golezana Plateau and Marselavat Valley will unfold beneath your feet.

10. Dereyayla-Tobamzga Plateau (5 km)

You can enjoy a pleasant walk with a view of Tunca Valley on this route located on the old migration path. Although the path is clear, it’s advisable not to walk this trail in foggy weather conditions, especially after crossing the stream first towards the southeast and then towards the north.

11. Golezana Plateau-Tobamzga Plateau (4 km)

An easy walk for everyone. Starting just after the ascent from Golezana Plateau, the path extends northwards to Tobamzga Plateau.

12. Golezana Plateau-Eğrisu Lake-Eğrisu Plateau (8 km)

This relatively easy trail, being at a high altitude, recommends checking weather conditions before starting the hike.

13. Golezana Plateau-Soğanlı (Alaca) Lakes-Çifte Lakes-Golezana Plateau (round trip 6 km)

A clearly marked path from the plateau towards Altıparmak Mountains will take you first to Soğanlı (Alaca) Lakes and then back westwards to Çifte Lakes. Following the streams from the lakes in foggy weather can help guide your direction.

The ancient migration path used for centuries between these two plateaus forms the main route of this trail. The path extending south of Komati Plateau remains clear as it is still in use.

16. Didingola Plateau-Lelvan Lake-Didingola Plateau (round trip 7 km)

Suitable for everyone. As you ascend, capturing beautiful photographic frames including Didingola Plateau and the valley you are in becomes possible.

This route, most preferred by travel agencies, houses three lodges along the way. Throughout the journey, you will cross two passes of three thousand meters. Enjoy using your camera frequently while walking amidst the panoramic view of Altıparmak peaks.

18. Didingola Plateau-Neknar Lake-Didingola Plateau (round trip 4 km)

An easy walk for everyone. The path to the southwest of the plateau is quite distinct. Following the stream coming from the same direction will guide you to the lake.

19. Koçdüzü Plateau-Kaçkar Plateau-Huser Plateau (14 km)

The trail follows the old path up to Kaçkar Plateau and then reaches Huser Plateau via a dirt road.

20. Avusor Plateau-Ambar Lake-Dadala Pension (10 km)

Participants in the hiking activity must cross two passes at an altitude of three thousand meters. Upon descending to the valley where Ambar Lake is located, you will notice that the trail is not very distinct. After the pass, the route traverses rocky terrain at times, leading down to the lakeshore. You can take a swimming break in the largest lake of the Kaçkar range. It’s advisable to plan this activity with camping. Enthusiastic hikers can choose to stay at Dadala Pension, which they pass by midway.

21. Avusor Plateau-Büyük Lake-Avusor Plateau (round trip 4 km)

This day trip, suitable for everyone, is one of the walking routes around Ayder Plateau. The lake is situated to the south of the plateau. Starting from the pension at Avusor Plateau, you can walk to Büyük Lake.

22. Avusor Plateau-Kaçkar Plateau (9 km)

This picturesque trail offers views of the valleys of Avusor and Kaçkar rivers simultaneously. The first part involves ascent, while the latter part follows a descent after the pass.

23. Avusor Plateau-Peryatak-Çamyatak-Huser Plateau (9 km)

One of the most frequented walking routes in Rize. A significant advantage of this trail is its proximity to Ayder Plateau. Starting from the plateau, the path progresses northwest, reaching Huser.

Some sections of the path that historically connected these two plateaus have disappeared. Initially following the Büyük Lake route, you can descend towards Palakçur Plateau from the ridge point.

This route, starting from Avusor Plateau in Rize and ending at Pişenkaya Plateau in Artvin, follows an ancient historical trail. The pass is approximately at an altitude of 3100 meters. Initially heading southeast, the route leads to the pass. The final section involves descent towards Pişenkaya.

26. Palakçur Plateau-Babür Pass-Satelef Plateau-Körahmet Plateau-Yaylalar (17 km)

Babür, one of the passes of the Kaçkar Mountains, is situated at approximately 3100 meters altitude. If the weather is clear, breathtaking views will accompany you as you traverse the pass. The path ascends in the southeast direction towards Babür Pass. Here, you’ll come across a small lake. Later, descending to Bulut Stream, you’ll arrive at an abandoned plateau. In the final section, the route initially follows the vehicle road and then joins the trail, crossing over a historical stone bridge to Yaylalar.

27. Palakçur Plateau-Yukarı Çaymakçur Plateau (8 km)

This day trip route, suitable for everyone, follows the forest road near Ayder.

28. Huser Plateau-Ayder Plateau (3.5 km)

A route that’s one of the paths for climbing the Kaçkar summit, crossing the 3200-meter Naletleme pass. Along the trail following a distinct path, you might encounter other hikers. The initial section is a continuous ascent up to Naletleme Pass. After crossing Karadeniz Lake, you start ascending amidst small lakes. Following the pass, you’ll descend towards Döbedüzü. From there, heading east, you’ll relatively walk on a flat path towards Olgunlar.

34. Yukarı Çaymakçur Plateau-Karadeniz Lake-Unnamed Lake-Yukarı Kavron Plateau (7 km)

One of the day hike trails near Ayder Plateau. Along this route, you have the chance to see three glacial lakes. Starting from Yukarı Çaymakçur, the route ascends southward towards the lakes. From this point, you can descend eastward.

35. Yukarı Çaymakçur Plateau-Körahmet Pass-Satelef Plateau-Körahmet Plateau-Yaylalar (11 km)(Çamlıhemşin-Yusufeli / Difficulty Level: 5)

Another route originating from Yukarı Çaymakçur Plateau, passing through the Körahmet pass on an ancient migration route, reaching the Yaylalar settlement near the Artvin border. Note that the pass is at an elevation of 3100 meters.

36. Aşağı Kavron Plateau-Galer Düzü-Ayder Plateau (10 km)

This route is a combination of routes 33 and 34, starting from Yukarı Kavron Plateau and leading to the Unnamed Lake. Shortly after, it descends to Karadeniz Lake and then follows the same path as route 33.

38. Yukarı Kavron Plateau-Derebaşı Lake-Yukarı Kavron Plateau (round trip 10 km)

By following the streambed from the south towards Yukarı Kavron Plateau, you can easily reach the lake. The return will follow the same route.

39. Yukarı Kavron Plateau-Öküzyatağı Lake-Mezovit Lake-Büyükdeniz Lake-Unnamed Lake-Yukarı Kavron Plateau (12 km)

This considerably long and exhausting route rewards hikers with encounters of five glacial lakes along the way. You can plan this route for camping. Initially, the path proceeds southward, then turns eastward towards Öküzyatağı. From Mezovit Lake, heading north towards Büyükdeniz Lake, then westward leads you back to the starting point.

40. Yukarı Kavron Plateau-Derebaşı Lake-Kavron Pass-Apivanak Plateau (9 km)

This trail, crossing the 3300-meter-high Kavron Pass via a very distinct path, leads to Apivanak Plateau. The route involves a gentle ascent up to the location of Derebaşı Lake, followed by swiftly rising switchbacks through a path towards Kavron Pass. The subsequent section of the route descends to Apivanak Plateau.

41. Hazindak Plateau-Amlakit Plateau (4 km)

Relatively easy, this walking route progresses towards Amlakit Plateau, moving southward through a partly stone-paved, distinct path.

42. Hazindak Plateau-Samistal Plateau (5 km)

Mostly identical to route 41, this path, near Amlakit, turns eastward, reaching Samistal through an old pasture path.

43. Samistal Plateau-Yukarı Kavron Plateau (6.5 km)

Starting from Samistal, a traditional plateau in Rize, this route descends to Yukarı Kavron after crossing the pass near Kavron Peak. Note that the path might be obscured in places due to landslides after the pass, so caution is advised.

This route, passing through the demanding 3100-meter Davalı pass between Rize and Erzurum, is quite exhausting. After passing the last house in the southern part of Apivanak, following the left side of the stream leads to the pass. From there, the trail descends to Davalı following the stream’s edge.

49. Apivanak Plateau-Karmik Plateau (5 km)

Connecting plateaus in two different valleys, this route climbs from the 2675-meter Karmik Plateau to the 3000-meter level, then descends to Apivanak Plateau.

The route progresses along the streamside path up to Karmik Plateau. Upon reaching the settlement, head west for an approximate 300-meter ascent to reach the lake.

Passing through one of Rize’s beautiful glacial lakes, Tatos Wet Lakes, this trail crosses a 3100-meter pass. The initial part of the route involves a path along the north direction of the stream. After departing from the rocky area, it turns eastward and ascends towards the lakes. The pass lies just above the Tatos Wet Lakes. Subsequently, the path leads downhill past Mocar Lake towards Verçenik Plateau.

57. Verçenik Plateau-Kapılı Lakes-Verçenik Plateau (round trip 13 km)

Although not too challenging, it’s a long route. Those interested can plan this hike as a two-day activity by camping near the lakes. The path progresses towards the southeast from the plateau, situated to the left of Büyükyayla Deresi. It turns east near At Gölü, ascending towards the lakes.

58. Verçenik Plateau-At Lake-Çermaniman Plateau (8 km)
(Çamlıhemşin-İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 3)

One of the paths connecting Çamlıhemşin and Hemşin regions to İkizdere. It’s comfortably walkable with a distinct trail. Initially following route 57 in the same direction, it heads south near At Lake, reaching the plateau.

59. Verçenik Plateau-Salır Pass-Salar Lake-Çermaniman Plateau (9 km)

Follows the same path as route 58 up to At Lake. From there, it heads west, crossing the 3100-meter Salır pass and descending to Çermaniman Plateau.

An easily manageable route leading to two glacial lakes nestled amidst the mountains. Starting from 1 kilometer before Verçenik Plateau on the right side of the dirt road, follow the well-defined trail leading to the lakes.

61. Verçenik Plateau-Icy Lakes-Çermeşk Lake-Çermeşk Plateau (12 km)

This trail shares the same path as route 60 up to the Icy Lakes, crossing a 3100-meter pass to reach Çermeşk Plateau. Upon reaching the pass, Verçenik Mountain lies behind, and Çermeşk Lake lies ahead. Descend to the lake first, then follow the stream from the lake to conclude the walk at Çermeşk Plateau.

62. Çermeşk Plateau-Çermeşk Lake-Kevut Plateau-Cimil Plateau (13 km)

A lengthy and strenuous route along an old migration path connecting Çamlıhemşin and Hemşin regions to Cimil Valley. After crossing the 3100-meter pass located above Çermeşk Lake, follow Sulu Dere to reach Cimil Plateau via Kevut Plateau.

63. Tahpur Plateau-Balıklı Lake-Ambarlı Plateau (7 km)

64. Ambarlı Plateau-Ambarlı Üçgöller-Balıklı Lake-Ambarlı Plateau (9 km)

This trail presents two historic stone arch bridges and over ten magnificent mansions, connecting the villages of Ortanköy and Konaklar via an old path. Starting from Ortanköy, the route passes through a wooded area, reaching Makrevis village along the Çamlıhemşin road at Makrevis Bridge.

68. Çağırankaya Plateau-Karos’un Taşı-İncesu Plateau (12 km)

An important trail among Rize’s highland routes, formerly linking the central district to İkizdere and İspir through Andon Springs. The section between Çağırankaya Plateau and Karos’un Taşı is a dirt road. The latter part of the route follows a wide and convenient trail. From Karos’un Taşı, you can see İncesu Plateau in Senoz Valley. The area is often shrouded in mist, so be cautious.

69. Çağırankaya Plateau-Cimil Plateau (17 km)

Initially following an approximately 9-kilometer historic path, this route shifts to a trail in the upper parts of Eğnaçor Plateau. Those wishing to shorten the hike can commence the walk from this point.

Another version of route 70, this track ascends over a 3000-meter pass from Kuruyatak Valley to Ovit Pass. Initially ascending towards the lakes, it descends after the pass towards the İkizdere-İspir road.

72. Kazançukuru Plateau-Aksu Lakes-Kazançukuru Plateau (round trip 8 km)

Aksu Lakes, easily accessible glacial lakes in Rize, are a must-see for nature enthusiasts. Follow the left side of the stream coming to Kazançukuru Plateau to visit three lakes in the valley basin.

73. Kazançukuru Plateau-Aksu Lakes-Kalçarak Plateau (11 km)
(İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 3)

Following route 72 leads to the first lake. Here, entering the path heading west will lead you to a 3200-meter high pass. From this point, you can view both the Aksu and Kalçarak Valleys. Descend from the pass along the winding path to reach Kalçarak Plateau alongside the stream.

74. Kazançukuru Plateau-Aksu Lakes-Dört Göller-Yedigöller (12 km)
(İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 4)

This route, showcasing nearly fifteen glacial lakes, crosses two passes at 3200 and 3100 meters. Initially descending from the pass north of Aksu Valley to Dört Göller, then ascending from the midpoint of two large lakes to Yedigöller plateau. Note that this route requires significant stamina.

75. Sivrikaya Büyük Plateau-Vaşa Plateau (7 km)

A distinct trail connecting two plateaus, providing views of İkizdere Valley. Progressing northwest along the hillside, the path crosses Yayla Deresi’s source to reach Vaşa Plateau in the final section.

76. Sivrikaya Büyük Plateau-Cimil Plateau (10 km)
(İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 3)

Partially overlapping with route 75, this track turns east near Mezarlık Tepesi and descends into the valley where Eskiyayla Deresi is located. It leads to Cimil Plateau via Viran Yaylası. Those interested can begin this hike from Vaşa Plateau.

77. Sivrikaya Büyük Plateau-Kuruyatak Plateau (6 km)
(İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 3)

Utilizing a passage northeast of Büyük Yayla, this route reaches Kuruyatak Plateau below the summit of Kapalıpınar Tepesi.

78. Vaşa Plateau-Gencebay Plateau-Cimil Plateau (10 km)
(İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 3)

Part of this route passes through wooded areas while offering views of İkizdere and Cimil valleys. The trail is well-defined.

79. Garzavan Plateau-Karataş Village (15 km)
(İkizdere-Bayburt / Difficulty Level: 4)

A dirt road south of Garzavan Plateau turns into a trail after about 3 kilometers. Those who enter the valley on the left, following Soğanlı Deresi, reach a 3000-meter high pass. From the pass, you can view Karataş village below. The final section of the route involves a descent.

80. Garzavan Plateau-Soğanlı Lake-Garzavan Plateau (round trip 10 km)

As described in route 79; at the end of the dirt road, enter the valley through which Soğanlı Creek flows. Progressing first on the left and then the right side of the creek leads to the azure-colored lake. Let’s emphasize that Soğanlı Lake is one of the most beautiful glacial lakes in Rize.

81. Garzavan Plateau-Katreç Lake-Garzavan Plateau (round trip 10 km)
(İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 3)

One of the routes originating from Garzavan Plateau. Follow the valley on the right at the end of the dirt road. A very distinct trail leads you to the shores of Katreç Lake, which consists of two sections. After crossing a small hill, it’s worth noting that the trail splits. The right path ascends over a pass through Buzluğan Plateau to Anzer Yaylası. The left path, after crossing the stream, proceeds through the rose bushes to Katreç Lake.

82. Garzavan Plateau-Soğanlı Lake-Orsor Yıldız Lake-Yoncalı (15 km)
(İkizdere-Bayburt / Difficulty Level: 4)

Similar to the portion of route 80 leading to Soğanlı Lake, this route descends to Yıldız Lake west of the lake. After a short break, the trail leads to Yoncalı village by joining the Yoncalı-Anzer mountain road.

83. Koşmer Plateau-Sivrinin Lakes-Koşmer Plateau (round trip 4 km)
(İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 2)

A section of this trail is made in the form of stone-paved stairs, easily walkable for everyone. While returning from the lake, from the viewpoint, you can see the entire Anzer Valley.

84. Koşmer Plateau-Sivrinin Lakes-Hataların Lake-Dipsiz Lake (6 km)
(İkizdere / Difficulty Level: 3)

The part of route 83 leading to the lakes forms the initial section of this route. Later, after crossing the hill above Sivrinin Lakes towards the southwest, you reach Hataların Lake. Note that this lake consists of two parts; don’t miss seeing the upper lake. In the final section, the trail heading west will guide you to Dipsiz Lake.

85. Kürdün Yurdu Plateau-Dipsiz Lake-Haldizen Plateau (12 km)
(İkizdere-Çaykara (Trabzon) / Difficulty Level: 3)

Passing through flower-strewn meadows, this trail reaches Haldizen (Demirkapı), one of Trabzon’s most beautiful plateaus. Remember, you’ll have to cross a peak higher than 3000 meters. The route, used for many years, is very distinct. Only a section briefly joins a newly opened dirt road before returning to the trail towards Haldizen Plateau.
