Paragliding sport, which is being introduced and endeavored to be embraced by the people of Rize mostly through volunteers, cannot be frequently practiced in the inland areas due to the intensity of fog despite the region’s geographical structure consisting of high peaks. The absence of thermals along the coastal part of the region and relatively less fog density allow paragliding from the hilltops near the sea. The weather along the coast is generally stable. Mild winds ranging between 3 to 10 in strength and not exceeding 15 kilometers per hour are observed. The take-off areas used are Çorapçılar and Şahin hills near the city center, from where parachutes glide down to the shore. The limited altitude usually restricts the duration of flight to around 5-10 minutes. On days without rain and generally rare southern winds, paragliding activities can be carried out daily in the region. Moreover, there is a club in the city center dedicated to flights with paramotors.
